18 December, 2019- The program will also show numerous options and experiences to those who want to explore opportunities abroad.
- The Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences organizes, together with Aragonese researchers who are working with experience in several international centers, the first Scientists around the World event that will be on December 20
Young researchers who are studying or developing their career outside Aragon have an appointment on December 20 in Zaragoza. The Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences (IACS) and a group of Aragonese researchers from the association of Spanish Scientists in the USA (ECUSA) who are working in international centers have jointly organized the first Scientists around the World event, to which It is still possible to register.
The objective is to establish synergies between Aragonese research groups and centers with those young people who are developing their scientific careers outside our borders and want to know the opportunities there are to return to Spain. It is also the ideal forum for students who wish to delve deeper into the option of research as a career option.
Pilar Martín Duque, ARAID – IACS researcher and organizer of the event, has highlighted “the great opportunity of having an event of this nature in Zaragoza”. “There are many Aragonese who are developing their talent in top-level international research centers and who want to return to their homeland to continue growing professionally; This event was born to make it easier for them to return home,” she noted.
Ignacio Vázquez García and María Tello Lafoz, researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York, USA and organizers of the event, aim to “give a global vision of the opportunities that researchers have beyond our borders.” The afternoon session, which will take place in the Patio de la Infanta, “will feature speakers from various profiles – academic, industrial, and management – who will share their experiences abroad and how these have enriched their professional background,” they add.
For the third consecutive year, Aragon hosts an event of these characteristics, which the IACS started in 2017, and which on this occasion expands the experience in the Patio de la Infanta. In this way, two sessions will be held, in the morning and in the afternoon. The Biomedical Research Center of Aragon will host the scientific session, in which four young people from the biomedical field will present the lines of research in which they are participating in international centers in Austria and the United Kingdom, among other countries. In addition, Dr. Manuel Serrano, from the Barcelona Biomedical Research Institute, will offer a keynote talk on the reprogramming of cells in vivo.
The session will conclude with a visit to the main CIBA laboratories, a cutting-edge and reference center for the research community in Aragon, where they will be able to delve deeper into the latest techniques in fields such as Genomics or Cell Culture, among others.
In the afternoon, the Patio de la Infanta will be the forum where sessions dedicated to professional development, dissemination and networking will be held. In it, young scientists will present the options that exist for research in Spain, how to do it in non-academic centers and how having worked abroad can benefit the research career. Likewise, there are many scientists coming from all corners of the world who have already shown their interest in presenting their work during the day, either with posters or with one-minute mini-talks.
The 1st Scientists around the World event has the collaboration of the Ibercaja Patio de la Infanta Foundation of Zaragoza and with the support of IIS Aragón, ARAID, the Scientific Culture Unit and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Zaragoza as well as the network of associations of Spanish scientists abroad RAICEX and scientific associations of multiple countries (ECUSA in the USA, CERU in the United Kingdom, etc.).
