ERA4Health: Modulation of brain aging through nutrition and healthy lifestyle (NutriBrain)
The Partnership “Fostering a European Research Area for Health” (ERA4Health) aims at establishing a flexible and effective coordination between funding organizations in the European Research Area (ERA) for Health and Well-being.
The Aim of the NutriBrain call is to support transnational research projects that focus on the improvement of cognitive brain aging through nutrition and other lifestyle factors.
Research projects should gain further insights into the modulation of brain aging by lifestyle factors and/or pilot test interventions based on the existing evidence in the literature or upscale existing pilot interventions that will help to reduce the risk of cognitive impairment manifestations related to a pathological brain aging.
Funding organization: Instituto de Salud Carlos III.
IHI – Call 5 (HORIZON-JU-IHI-2023-05) is a single-stage call for proposals with the following topics:
- Topic 1: Accelerating the implementation of New Approach Methodologies and other innovative non-animal approaches for the development, testing and production of health technologies.
- Topic 2: Development and proof of principle of new clinical applications of theranostics solutions.
- Topic 3: Improved prediction, detection, and treatment approaches for comprehensive stroke management.
- Topic 4: Maximizing the potential of synthetic data generation in healthcare applications

ERA4Health: Nano and advanced technologies for disease prevention, diagnosis and therapy (NANOTECMEC)
The Partnership “Fostering a European Research Area for Health” (ERA4Health) aims at establishing a flexible and effective coordination between funding organizations in the European Research Area (ERA) for Health and Well-being. NANOTECMEC project proposals will address multidisciplinary and translational research. The participation of Medical Doctors and clinicians is strongly encouraged. SMEs (Small and Medium-size Enterprises) are also strongly encouraged to participate.
The applications must cover at least one of the following nanomedicine areas that are of equal relevance for this call:
a) Regenerative medicine
b) Diagnostics
c) Nanotherapy
HORIZON EUROPE – RESILIENT VALUE CHAINS CLUSTER 4
HORIZON-CL4-2024-RESILIENCE-01-36: Advanced biomaterials for the Health Care (AI). Strategic Innovation Markets driven by Advanced Materials presents synergies with the energy-intensive and manufacturing industries, in view of both the circularity approaches and low-carbon technologies; and with Cluster 1 'Health', in view of areas on bio-based materials.

HORIZON EUROPE – MSCA COFUND 2023
Call for proposal MSCA COFUND (HORIZON-MSCA-2023-COFUND-01-01) co-finances new or existing doctoral programs and postdoctoral fellowship schemes with the aim of spreading the best practices of the MSCA including international, inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary research training, as well as international and cross-sectoral mobility of researchers at all stages of their career.
In practice, MSCA COFUND provides complementary funding for doctoral or postdoctoral programs managed by entities established in EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries. Those co-funded programs must follow MSCA's good practice in terms of international recruitment and minimum standard of employment for the recruited fellows as described in the European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.
HORIZON-CL6-2024-COMMUNITIES-01-3: Participation and empowerment of Arctic coastal, local, and indigenous communities in environmental decision-making.

HORIZON EUROPE – MSCA STAFF EXCHANGES 2023
Call for proposal MSCA Staff Exchange (HORIZON-MSCA-2023-SE-01-01) promote innovative international, inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary collaboration in research and innovation through exchanging staff and sharing knowledge and ideas at all stages of the innovation chain. The scheme fosters a shared culture of research and innovation that welcomes and rewards creativity and entrepreneurship and helps turn ideas into innovative products, services or processes. It is open to research, technical, administrative and managerial staff supporting R&I activities.

MECHANISMS AND MEASUREMENT OF DISEASE PROGRESSION IN THE INITIAL PHASE OF NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASES
Goal: Improve understanding of disease mechanisms and advance the measurability of disease progression in the early and presymptomatic phases of neurodegenerative diseases.
Mandatory of 1 Spanish partner in the proposal with the role of coordinator.
Beneficiary entities: Public research/monographic centers on neurodegenerative diseases.
PMTARGETS: Identification or validation of targets for personalized medicine approaches.
Objectives of the call:
Identify or validate targets in combination with the analysis of biomarkers that allow monitoring treatment and stratifying patients.
Promote interdisciplinary collaboration between preclinical and clinical, multidisciplinary and intersectoral research, to enhance the application of personalized medicine.
ERA-NET NEURON JTC 2024 “RECIPROCAL INTERACTION BETWEEN THE BRAIN AND THE BODY”
Objective of the transnational ERA NET NEURON initiative:
- Facilitate multinational, collaborative research projects that address critical clinical and translational questions to improve our knowledge of the role of reciprocal interactions between the central nervous system and the body in the genesis and progression of neurological and psychiatric diseases.
- Prevent and treat: A better understanding of these interactions has the potential to discover solutions for the prevention and treatment of these disorders.
Funding organizations: State Research Agency and Carlos III Health Institute.

HORIZON EUROPE – ENHANCING THE EUROPEAN R&I SYSTEM
ERC-2024-POC: The ERC Proof of Concept Grants aim at facilitating exploration of the commercial and social innovation potential of ERC funded research and are therefore available only to Principal Investigators whose proposals draw substantially on their ERC funded research.
The financial contribution will be awarded as a lump sum of EUR 150.000 for a period of XIX months. The ERC expects that normally proof of concept activities should be completed within 12 months. However, to allow for those projects that require more preparation time, the grant agreements will be signed for 18 months. Extensions of the duration of proof of concept projects may be granted only exceptionally.

JOINT PROGRAMMING INITIATIVE ON ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE (JPIAMR)
Call framed in the Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance (JPIAMR – Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance), which aims to coordinate the efforts carried out, from the different associated countries, in the field of antimicrobial resistance.
The call will be co-financed by the European Commission and different financing agencies of the participating countries or regions. In the case of Spain, Instituto de Salud Carlos III will be the financier of the Spanish groups participating in the projects.
Specifically, the call will finance transnational research projects for the development of strategies, tools, technologies and innovative methods for the diagnosis and surveillance of antimicrobial resistance.
Projects must focus on one of the following topics:
1. Develop novel diagnostics, or improve existing ones, that can rule out the use of antimicrobials or help identify the most effective antimicrobial treatment.
2. Develop or improve existing strategies, technologies or methods, or data use strategies to support antimicrobial resistance surveillance in One Health.
HORIZON-CL4-2024-DIGITAL-EMERGING-01-03: Novel paradigms and approaches, towards AI-powered robots-step change in functionality (AI, data and robotics partnership).
CERV-2024-CHILD: Rights of the child and children's participation.
This call for proposals aims at supporting, advancing and implementing comprehensive policies to protect and promote the rights of the child, including the right to participate. It responds to children's current needs and challenges in the EU, through four priorities, one of them children's mental health.

HORIZON-HLTH-2024-IND-06-08: Developing EU methodological frameworks for clinical/performance evaluation and post-market clinical/performance follow-up of medical devices and in vitro diagnostic medical devices (IVDs).
HORIZON-HLTH-2024-IND-06-09: Gaining experience and confidence in New Approach Methodologies (NAM) for regulatory safety and efficacy testing – coordinated training and experience exchange for regulators.
HORIZON-HLTH-2024-DISEASE-08-12: Pandemic preparedness and response: Maintaining the European partnership for pandemic preparedness.
HORIZON-HLTH-2024-DISEASE-08-20: Pandemic preparedness and response: Host-pathogens interactions of infectious diseases with epidemic potential.
La Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) has organized between January 10 and 25, the IHI Call Days in online format, to inform about the next calls 6 and 7, included in the Work Program 2024, and whose opening is scheduled for January.
Between January 10 and 12, the information sessions corresponding to the Call 7, in which there will be information sessions on each of the topics, as well as on the rules and procedures of said call and a specific session on the financial aspects of the proposals. On January 15 and 16, The sessions corresponding to the Call 6, which will include information sessions on each of the topics, as well as a specific session on the rules and procedures of said call.
Additionally, from 23 to January 25, there will be pitching sessions for each of the topics, to allow entities to present themselves as possible coordinators or partners for the proposals. If you wish to present a pitch, you must indicate this at the time of registration and follow the instructions on the platform, with the deadline being January 12, 2024.
The platform used to carry out the IHI Call Days includes a networking module to facilitate the search for partners. This platform will remain open until the closing of the calls.
European Innovation Council online Info Day- Work Program 2024 January 15, 2024 | Ver the live event
The European Innovation Council (EIC) Work Program 2024 will be presented in this full-day online event on 15 January 2024 dedicated to potential applicants, together with an overview of the achievements under the previous work programs.
Dedicated sessions will present the wide range of services (access to coaches, mentors, access to global partners & innovation ecosystem) offered to all EIC-funded projects and companies by the Business Acceleration Services (BAS) and the Lump Sums as a novelty from 2024 relevant for all schemes.
The event will conclude with an overview of the free of charge support that prospective applicants can get from their EIC National Contact Points (Access2EIC network) and their local Enterprise Europe Network (EEN2EIC network) advisers.

JPIAMR will launch in 2024 an international call for projects under the umbrella of JPIAMR and within the framework of the ERA-NET JPIAMR-ACTION. The call Interventions moving forward to promote action to counteract the emergence and spread of bacterial and fungal resistance and to improve treatments will involve 21 funders from 19 countries. The total estimated call budget is over 19 million Euro.
A live webinar for applicants will be organized on the 24th of January 2024. This webinar will present the call and the partner search tool. Representatives from funders participating in the call will answer questions live.

Lump Sum Funding in Horizon Europe: How does it work? How to write a proposal? February 8, 2024 | Learn more
The European Commission is organizing a new information day on lump sum financing in Horizon Europe, which will take place on 8 February 2024 and will be broadcast live on the Internet.
During the day, it will be explained how this form of financing works and what should be taken into account when writing a proposal in this case. In addition, there will be a session on practical experiences and a space reserved for questions.

Research perspectives on the health impacts of climate change February 19, 2024 | Pre-registration
This high-level conference will bring together researchers, policymakers and relevant stakeholders to reflect on the research needs in the field of climate change and human health.
Climate change is a global existential challenge that has introduced unprecedented pressures on the planet which are already translating into significant consequences for human health.
Research and innovation (R&I) are key in delivering evidence and tools to understand, prevent and reduce the health impacts of these rapidly unfolding threats. However, there are numerous knowledge gaps that need to be filled and innovation opportunities that remain untapped.
There is also growing momentum and interest at the global level to increase coordination towards a forward-looking research agenda in climate change and health that will be capable of delivering robust evidence for the necessary adaptation and mitigation actions and policies.
