Program
19:00 h. Anticoagulants: Strategies that save lives.
- Dr. Luis López Gómez. Head of the Hematology and Hemotherapy Department at Royo Villanova University Hospital. Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Zaragoza.
Oral anticoagulants offer benefits for millions of people, reducing the risk of stroke and thromboembolic disease. The most common and feared complication is bleeding, so the scientific community must work to improve the safety profile by minimizing adverse effects.
Direct-acting anticoagulants are a good alternative since they lower the risk of bleeding, but their benefits are not universal, as they are inferior to vitamin K anti-coagulants in specific situations.
Collaboration and coordination between primary care teams and specialist teams in the hospital is vital for the excellent care of patients receiving anticoagulant therapy.
19:30 h. New Anticoagulants: Advances That Transform Health.
- Dr. Olga Gavín Sebastián. Hematology and Hemotherapy Specialist, Hemostasis and Thrombosis Department, Lozano Blesa University Clinical Hospital. Associate Professor at the University of Zaragoza. He is a member of the IIS Aragón group "Hematology Research at Lozano Blesa University Hospital" (GIIS040).
The talk will address advances in the development of new anticoagulants, a revolution in the management of anticoagulant therapy, as well as in the primary and secondary prevention of thromboembolic disorders. The main differences between traditional anticoagulants, such as vitamin K antagonists (e.g., warfarin), and new direct-acting oral anticoagulants (DOACs), such as dabigatran, rivaroxaban, apixaban, and edoxaban, will be analyzed.
Moderates the sessions: Dr. Miguel Ángel Guerrero Cásedas. Head of Medical Service – Health Unit – Ibercaja.
