October 15, 2019The Microscopy and Imaging Scientific Technical Service has carried out the update of the Leica AF6000 LX Multidimensional Microscopy System (also known as WF – Time Lapse).
This microscopy system is aimed at carrying out experiments in living cell applications, since it incorporates real-time control of its components, thus enabling the acquisition of images at high speed and with minimal exposure of the samples to the light, thus preserving their viability.
Thanks to the upgrade carried out, on the one hand, the performance of the Workstation has been improved both at the hardware and software level, which allows the acquisition of a large number of images for the development of new applications of current microscopy. (screening, mosaics, multidimensional image acquisition applications with multiple stage positions, better quality three-dimensional reconstructions... etc.); and on the other hand, a new digital camera based on sCMOS technology with a 16-bit dynamic range has been incorporated, which allows a greater range of intensities to be documented with the same image conditions and to quantify smaller intensity differences. In addition, the smaller pixel size, larger sensor size and greater quantum efficiency of the new camera compared to the previous one, provide:
- Higher sampling resolution at low magnifications
- A larger field visualization, which translates into the use of a smaller number of images in the acquisition of mosaics and said acquisition is faster or with more context information
- A higher percentage of photons detected, which translates into 25% more signal (under equal conditions compared to the previous camera)
