A study by the IIS Aragón identifies early changes in a cardiac protein with relevance for the development of new treatments against arrhythmias
20 July 2026The program Ágora, on Aragón Radio, discusses the incorporation of Lorena Sancho into the Immunotherapy, Infection, Inflammation and Cancer group of the IIS Aragón
The project Medullary, promoted by the Dona Médula Aragón association, has managed to raise close to 27.500 Euros in just over a year through the Fundraising Unizar platform. This amount will allow the researcher to join the team. Lorena Sancho to the group of Immunotherapy, Infection, Inflammation and Cancer at the Aragon Health Research Institute (IIS Aragon).
The young scientist will work on the development of new therapies based on enhanced CAR-NK cells to combat a type of hematological cancer that currently has no treatment. NK cells are a type of white blood cell with the ability to recognize and destroy altered cells, making them a tool with significant potential in the field of immunotherapy.
The research will be conducted at the IIS Aragón, where Lorena Sancho will join a group specializing in the study of new therapeutic strategies for cancer, infections, and inflammatory processes. The Institute provides the scientific environment, resources, and professional collaboration necessary to advance this line of research.
The project highlights the value of collaboration between civil society and health research. The contributions made to Medulizar have not only secured the necessary funding to hire a researcher, but will also directly contribute to the advancement of a line of research aimed at patients who currently lack therapeutic options.
This initiative is featured in an episode of the program. Ágora, from Aragón Radio, in which they participate Ignacio Torrubia, president of Dona Médula Aragón, and the researchers Lorena Sancho and Daniel RamírezDuring the conversation, they discuss the project's scientific objectives, the potential of CAR-NK therapies, and the role of donations as a driving force for research.
The episode, titled "A young scientist will investigate an incurable hematological cancer thanks to donations from the Medulizar project."It shows how the alliance between associations, citizens and scientific institutions such as the IIS Aragón can generate new opportunities to advance knowledge and the search for new treatments.
