October 18, 2024The Association has organised an exhibition that tells the story of the most multitudinous charity activity in Aragon, about its most special moments and the importance that this activity has had and continues to have in the fight against childhood cancer. It will be available until Sunday 27 October.
This exhibition has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of Zaragoza City Council and the newspaper archives of 'Heraldo de Aragón'. The aim of the event is to highlight all the institutions, companies and people who make this event possible in support of children with cancer. It also aims to highlight the particularities that make it a unique activity in Spain.
This initiative was born in 1995 from the head of Javier Planas, a member of the legendary Zaraguayos, who, together with a large group of volunteers, coordinated it for 22 years. In these three decades, the Real Zaragoza Veterans Association has played with the main teams of former players in the country, such as Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and even the Spanish National Team.
At the opening ceremony, held yesterday in the Auditorium of Zaragoza, the president of Aspanoa pointed out that This activity completely changed the history of the Association:
“First, because it allowed us to learn that children could also have cancer, which until then was a very unknown disease in the city. Second, because it created an extraordinary tool so that all of Zaragoza could come to La Romareda once a year to support our children. And third, because it allowed us to obtain a source of funding that is still vital today for Aspanoa to be able to develop all of its services and projects for children with cancer.”
Gabriel Tirado, president of Aspanoa
In addition, the following people participated in this event: Sara fernandez, Culture Councilor of the Zaragoza City Council; and Felix Perez Aguerri, representing the Real Zaragoza Veterans Association. Other Zaragoza legends also attended, such as Xavi Aguado o Javier Paredes.
