The head of Infectious Diseases at the Valle d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, Benito Almirante, has stated that the coronavirus is in the final phase and that "it is very likely that in two or three weeks it will be absolutely marginal."
In an interview on Barcelona municipal television, Betevé, Almirante defended that the spread of the virus will soon be minimal and that large outbreaks are "unlikely."
The infectologist has stated that, after the evolution of the disease and the measures to protect and confine the population, "the disease is decreasing and it is very likely that in a period of two or three weeks it will be absolutely marginal."
Almirante compares the evolution of COVID-19 with that of other viral diseases such as the flu, which "also has a very significant rise, a pattern that lasts several weeks and a gradual decline until it practically disappears in the summer."
"The behavior of the coronavirus is very similar to the seasonal flu," says the specialist, who confirms that children and adolescents do not suffer from the disease and have a very low risk of transmitting it among themselves or to other people.
This is due, according to the doctor, to the fact that they have a poorly developed molecule that adults have in the respiratory mucosa and that serves the virus to infect, as a kind of receptor that spreads the infection to the rest of the body.
