Spain, world reference for clinical research
28 June, 2019A state association is born to help those affected and their families
Yesterday, the Clinical Hospital of Zaragoza hosted the presentation of the Spanish Association of Lung Cancer Patients in Aragon (Aeacap). The event, attended by patients and relatives of those affected by lung cancer, also brought together several citizens given its open nature.
During it, a round table was held in which the hospital's deputy medical director, Victoria Villaverde, participated; Dolores Isla, Head of the Clinic's Medical Oncology Service; Ángel Artal, Head of the Medical Oncology Section at the Miguel Servet Hospital; and Bernard Gaspar, president of the Spanish Association of Lung Cancer Patients.
The group, with a presence in several cities in the country to make itself known and be able to contact patients, has four fundamental objectives. On the one hand, provide psychological support, advise and guide those affected; fight to expand the rights of lung cancer patients; contribute to the prevention of the disease by raising awareness among risk groups; and promote university, scientific and medical research.
Lung cancer is considered the most deadly tumor. Every year around 27.000 new cases are diagnosed in Spain and more than 22.000 people die from it.
