9 July 2025The Fraga Health Center has been awarded fourth prize at the 24rd Workshop on Quality in Health and the 25st Congress of the Aragonese Society of Healthcare Quality, held on June XNUMX and XNUMX in Zaragoza.
The Fraga Health Center has been awarded the fourth prize within the framework of the 24rd Working Conference on Quality in Health and the 25st Congress of the Aragonese Society of Healthcare Quality, held on June XNUMX and XNUMX in Zaragoza. The recognition highlights the colorectal cancer screening campaign video, an initiative that has proven effective in increasing citizen participation in this early detection test, key in the fight against one of the main causes of cancer mortality.
What makes this award particularly commendable is that it comes from a health center located in a rural area. In a context where resources are more limited than in larger cities, the Fraga Primary Care team has managed to design and execute an impactful campaign with a community-based and multidisciplinary approach. The collaborative work between the health center itself, Fraga City Council, Diario del Bajo Cinca, and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), among others, has been fundamental in raising greater social awareness.
The nurse María Salud Bernad Bordas, Head of Community Care at the center, was responsible for collecting the award and highlighted the role of nursing in health education. "Currently, primary care nurses are primarily responsible for health promotion and prevention. We need the population to acquire clear and simple knowledge that promotes self-care," she explained.
According to Bernad, The campaign has directly contributed to increasing the number of users who requested information and were encouraged to take the fecal occult blood test., a non-invasive test that takes just 15 minutes and can save lives through early detection of colorectal cancer.
The initiative, which has benefited from the involvement of local media outlets such as Diario del Bajo Cinca, has demonstrated the transformative power of collaboration between public institutions and social organizations. "Since we arrived at the center, together with Rosa Fraile, a psycho-oncologist at the AECC in Fraga, one of our main objectives has been to promote colon cancer prevention campaigns, observing that participation was very low in the area. This award recognizes not only the healthcare work but also the commitment to the region," she added.

The jury especially valued The campaign's intersectoral approach and the Fragatino health center's ability to mobilize the community around a public health objectiveAlso present at the award ceremony were professionals from the Aragonese Health Service, the Aragonese Society for Healthcare Quality, and representatives from the Barbastro healthcare sector.
Fraga is already considering new community health initiatives. Planned projects include campaigns to increase HPV vaccination coverage among adolescents, first aid training in schools, and informational materials in several languages for people with language barriers.
In her speech during the conference, María Bernad did not hesitate to request more resources for the center in the capital of Bajo/Baix Cinca, where, for now, colonoscopies are not performed and patients must travel to Huesca.
This award not only recognizes a job well done, but also exemplifies how rural communities can lead innovative initiatives in health promotion when there is a strong commitment, professionalism, and collaboration among all stakeholders in the region.
