Title

GastricAITool: Early Diagnosis & Prevention of Gastric Cancer

Description

The GastricAITool proposal, applied by the consortium formed by IIS Aragón (Translational Research in Digestive Pathology group), and ITAINNOVA (Big Data and Cognitive Systems group), was chosen in the 2nd Open Call of the Gatekeeper project. GATEKEEPER is a European Multi Centric Large-Scale Pilot focusing on smart data driven solutions for personalized early risk detection and intervention, funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and Innovation programme. Its main objective is to create a GATEKEEPER that connects healthcare providers, businesses, entrepreneurs, elderly citizens and the communities they live in. This connection between stakeholders will promote an open, trust-based arena for matching ideas, technologies, user needs and processes, aimed at ensuring healthier independent lives for the aging populations. To this end, IIS Aragón and Itainnova will incorporate GastricAITool to the Gatekeeper ecosystem with other applications, tools or components which will be included into the Gatekeeper platform. GastricAITool will address challenge 1 (Prevention / chronic disease management), one of the 4 Challenges proposed by the 2nd Open Call.

Objectives and Results

The proposal aims to address the challenge of early diagnosis and prevention of Gastric Cancer through a decision support tool. We aim to develop and deploy an innovative diagnostic and prognostic tool building on big data whose models will incorporate clinical, demographic, environmental, tumor and genetic information from a Spanish multicentre population. The diagnostic and prognostic tool will be integrated into the Gatekeeper platform to help clinicians make decisions. This will allow the development of more personalized follow-up strategies, early interventions and therapeutic action and, as a consequence, an improvement of the healthcare system. In the era of so-called precision medicine, the GastricAITool will help to identify which individuals are more likely to develop gastric cancer or have a worse prognosis of the disease.
