Postdoctoral Fellowship Japan – Short Term Program 2025-2

This call for proposals will support pre- and postdoctoral researchers from America and Europe to carry out a research project at a Japanese institution in the areas of humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.

The scholarship will provide ¥362.000/month to those with a doctoral degree and ¥200.000/month to PhD students.

Requirements

Applicants must:

• Be a citizen or permanent resident of an eligible country (USA, Canada, EU countries, UK, Switzerland, Norway, and Russia). Also eligible are individuals who have participated in research continuously for a period of at least three years at a university or research institution in an eligible country. Such individuals must be from a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan or from Taiwan or Palestine.
• Have obtained a doctoral degree from a university outside Japan within six years from the scholarship's effective date, or be currently enrolled in a doctoral course at a university outside Japan and plan to obtain the degree within two years of the stay.

Application

The application must be submitted through the application platform, attaching the documentation indicated in the call for applications.

• This 2025 call establishes three cycles for submitting applications:
  • 10/01/2025 (Beneficiaries are expected to arrive in Japan between 01/08/25 and 31/03/26).
  • 06/06/2025 (Beneficiaries are expected to arrive in Japan between 01/12/25 and 31/03/26).
