November 6, 2023The IIS Aragón researcher, who carries out her work in the Translational Research Group in Digestive Pathology GIIS027, has recently been appointed full academician of the Academia de Farmacia Reino de Aragón.
Last Thursday, October 26, the Kingdom of Aragon Academy of Pharmacy celebrated the reception, as a full academic, of the pharmacist Olga Abian Franco, in which he read the speech "Academic research facing the challenge of discovering new drugs."
In this speech, aspects related to the ddrug discovery in the academic environment: the importance of selecting protein targets of interest and how to alter their biological function and folding; the application of biophysical techniques for the characterization of its structure and function; the increasing relevance of Intrinsically Disordered Proteins (IDPs) as therapeutic targets; and the essential stages in the identification of potential drugs in academic laboratories, from the identification of unsolved health problems to preclinical testing of compounds.
Olga Abián's career
Graduate in Pharmacy from the University of Navarra and PhD from the Autonomous University of Madrid. She is currently a Full Professor at the University of Zaragoza in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular and Cellular Biology. She is principal investigator of projects funded by the Carlos III Health Institute, she is part of the Translational Research Group in Digestive Pathology GIIS027 of the IIS Aragón and collaborator in European collaboration projects and networks. She is the author of 124 articles in indexed international research journals, 7 patents and 4 six-year research periods recognized by the National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activity.
