A new 'bad cholesterol' test more accurately prevents coronary heart disease.

A study shows that analyzing two lipoprotein markers in the blood provides more accurate information about the risk of heart disease. This is because the test measures the amount of "bad cholesterol" transport proteins, whereas conventional tests do not.

Presentation of the APSATUR Aragón Research Grants

Alberto J. Schuhmacher, PI of the Molecular Oncology group at the IIS Aragón, and Nadia Hindi, head of the Oncohealth Sarcoma Unit at the Jiménez Díaz Foundation Oncology Institute, were awarded grants that allow them to research less common types of cancer.

23rd Congress of the Spanish Society of Neurosurgery: open day to the public

Zaragoza will host the Congress of the Spanish Society of Neurosurgery (SENEC), which will offer a public event for the first time on May 27th. Alberto J. Schuhmacher, head of the Molecular Oncology Group at the IIS Aragón, will explore cutting-edge topics such as epigenetics and its applications in brain surgery, among others.

Neither responsible nor sustainable: Conference 'Gambling, a public health problem'

Last Friday, Zaragoza hosted a conference analyzing the effects of gambling on mental health. National leaders called for stronger public intervention through regulatory policies, effective prevention strategies, and appropriate care services. The GAMBL-OUT and GAMBL-HID projects, led by researchers from the IIS Aragón, were also presented.

The Mediterranean diet from an early age could help prevent excess weight in childhood.

The study, led by the IIS Aragón and the University of Zaragoza, analyzed more than 1.200 children between the ages of 3 and 6 in seven Spanish cities. Children with a higher adherence to the Mediterranean diet had a lower BMI and less total and abdominal fat, especially in the case of girls.
