November 22, 2023The ”la Caixa” Foundation promotes a project with the participation of the IIS Aragón for the early diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer
November 23, 2023The postdoctoral researcher from IIS Aragón has been one of the winners in the 13th edition of the Aragón Investiga Awards with the Ramón y Cajal distinction in the area of Health, Biotechnology and Biomedicine
Laura Usón, postdoctoral researcher at IIS Aragón, collected yesterday the Aragón Investigates Ramón y Cajal award in the area of Health, Biotechnology and Biomedicine thanks to the publication Nanoengineering Palladium Plasmonic Nanosheets Inside Polymer Nanospheres for Photothermal Therapy and Targeted Drug Delivery.
In addition to Laura, the following have participated in this work: Cristina Yus (co-author of the article), Manuel Arruebo and Víctor Sebastián (project managers), Silvia Irusta, Teresa Alejo and Ane Larrea (IIS Aragón, University of Zaragoza and the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon, INMA); Gracia Mendoza (IIS Aragón); David García-Domingo (IACS); Raúl Arenal (Advanced Microscopy Laboratory) and Eric Leroy (Institut de Chimie et des Matériaux Paris-Est).
The article presents a new procedure to synthesize, in a single step, polymeric nanocapsules with palladium sheets inside. These sheets are capable of absorbing infrared light, which does not damage body tissue, and transforming it into heat. In addition, two applications of these materials are shown: The controlled and on-demand release of drugs loaded inside and photothermal therapies for the destruction of tumor cells through thermal ablation.
The delivery ceremony took place on November 22, 2023, at the Caja Rural de Aragón Foundation located in Zaragoza.
