September 2, 2026The SAMCA Chair of Technological Development of Aragon opens the seventh edition of its Multidisciplinary Innovation Award to recognize initiatives that connect science, engineering, humanities and business
The SAMCA Chair of Technological Development's Multidisciplinary Innovation Award at the University of Zaragoza is now in its seventh year. The call for entries is now open, and projects that combine different fields of work and contribute to progress through knowledge transfer to society are eligible to be submitted.
This initiative aims to allow promote the development of R&D&I projects en Science and Technology with a character multidisciplinary and with a clear vocation to reach society through its transfer to the economic or social environment. Likewise, the following will be valued simulator of the project in improving people's quality of life, economic growth, job creation and contribution to progress of the society.
The SAMCA Chair of Technological Development Innovation Award, promoted in collaboration with the Aragon Institute for Engineering Research (I3A), fosters collaborative work across different fields of knowledge, such as the humanities, social sciences, engineering, biomedical sciences, and ICT. It is endowed with 5.000 euros, in addition to an additional contribution of 3.000 Euros, the following year, after monitoring the project.
Applications may be submitted until October 31. All information and the rules of the award can be found on the website of the SAMCA Chair of Technological Development.
The SAMCA Chair of Technological Development of Aragon It is one of the first Chairs established at the University of Zaragoza. It was created, among other objectives, to disseminate knowledge of technological development, providing students, professors, and researchers, as well as professionals from companies and institutions, with a shared understanding of the culture of technological research and development from a multidisciplinary perspective. After more than fifteen years of activity, it has become a benchmark in promoting scientific and technological activity in Aragon and its translation into an innovative culture that fosters collaboration between universities and companies.
Winners of previous editions
2020 – PowerIRE
A project that unites engineering and health, PowerIRE, focused on the research, development and clinical application of new high-performance electronic electroporation systems for cancer treatment, with significant improvements over those currently available.
Óscar Lucía, one of the researchers leading this project, belongs to the Power Electronics and Microelectronics Research Group (GEPM) of the Aragon Institute of Engineering Research (I3A).
2021- SensoriZAR Project
It is dedicated to the Energy Efficiency and takes as its starting point that to be more efficient it is necessary to understand how a building behaves when used, depending on the environment in which it is located, its architectural configuration and the technical systems for air conditioning and energy production that it has.
Coordinated by researchers Belén Zalba and Ignacio Martínez, along with 15 other people from Architecture and various branches of Industrial, Mechanical, Thermal, Electrical, Electronic, Computer, Design and Telecommunications Engineering.
2022 – MAiCRO Project
It is focused on the challenge of detect eye diseases before the signs are visibleTo achieve this, they use image processing and artificial intelligence technology to facilitate the early diagnosis of pathologies such as keratoconus and glaucoma, genetic syndromes like Marfan syndrome, and to better understand how wearing contact lenses affects eye health. Created, developed, and evaluated by researcher Alejandra Consejo.
2023 -Pproject PARAFree
It is a project that It destroys Anisakis and Toxoplasma in food. y It is coordinated by Ignacio Álvarez Lanzarote and Guillermo Cebrián AuréProfessors from the University of Zaragoza and researchers from the Agri-Food Institute of Aragon (IA2) are using a new non-thermal food processing technology, considered environmentally friendly, to address this problem. High Voltage Electrical Pulses (PEAV).
2024 – Project BONIFACE
Pioneer in the intersection of sustainable energy, materials innovation and modern architectureThis research seeks to integrate solar energy into buildings using low-cost photovoltaic cells based on halogenated perovskite, employing scalable manufacturing methods on a ceramic substrate. The main innovation of this research is its integrated approach, combining photovoltaic technology with traditional ceramic building materials.
A multidisciplinary project that unites Physical Sciences, Engineering and Materials Science, is led by Emilio Juárez-Pérez, ARAID researcher at the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon (INMA) CSIC-University of Zaragoza.
2025 - Car batteries with greater range and ultra-fast charging
A multidisciplinary project focused on the development of advanced technologies for next generation electric car batteriesThe proposal is led by the deep tech startup Floatech, in collaboration with the University of Zaragoza, the IMDEA Materials Institute and the technology company NablaDot, with a research team made up of 11 people from five entities.
The central idea of the project is develop a technology that allows the production of silicon nanowires in large quantities to make the leap to next-generation batteries. The work addresses one of the main challenges of the energy transition: bringing innovative materials to market. from the laboratory to industrial productionTaking that critical leap to manufacture silicon nanowires, a material with enormous potential to reduce dependence on critical materials such as graphite used in current batteries.
