The Luzón Foundation celebrates the days And May 7 8 el III Face-to-face meeting of the Spanish ALS Research Network, which will take place in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of ZaragozaThe meeting will bring together researchers and professionals specializing in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis with the aim of sharing advances, discussing the main scientific and clinical challenges, and fostering new collaborations.
The meeting includes the participation of the coordinator of the Neuroscience of Mental Health and Sensory Organs program of the IIS Aragón Rosario Osta PinzolasProfessor of Genetics at the University of Zaragoza and principal investigator of the IISA Reference Group, LAGENBIO: TERAGEN and REGENERAGENThis researcher is part of the Organizing Committee of this meeting and of the Scientific Committee of the Luzón Foundation.
Over two days, key issues will be addressed, including disease mechanisms, diagnosis, patient stratification, clinical trials, emerging treatments, and basic and translational research. The program will include scientific presentations, discussion sessions, focus groups, clinical and basic science posters, and invited lectures by experts such as Dr. Mónica Povedano y Mónica Macías Conde.
The inauguration will include the participation of representatives from Luzon Foundation, the University of Zaragoza, the veterinary school, IIS Aragon and collaborating entities. This meeting also coincides with the tenth anniversary of the Luzón Foundation, created by Francisco Luzón with the purpose of raising awareness of ALS, supporting those affected and their families, and promoting research.
The Spanish ALS Research Network originated in 2016, when the need to connect the groups working on this disease became evident. Since then, the Luzón Foundation has promoted virtual meetings and in-person gatherings to strengthen scientific collaboration.
ALS remains a rare, complex, and incurable disease. In Spain, it affects approximately 3.600 people and are diagnosed around 1.000 new cases each yearTherefore, initiatives like this meeting seek to strengthen networking and move towards better treatments and, in the future, a cure.
