23 May 2025Last Monday, May 19, members of the Association visited the IIS Aragón facilities to learn firsthand about the cancer research project they helped fund., reaffirming their commitment to science as a way to advance the fight against the disease
The Sentinel Association visited the Aragon Health Research Institute (IIS Aragon) last Monday, May 19, with the aim of Learn in depth about the cutting-edge immunotherapy project to which the funds raised during the Centinela Running 2024 were allocated.. During his tour of the facilities at the CIBA and the Translational Research Unit of the Miguel Servet Hospital, were able to talk with the scientific teams responsible and discover how their contribution drives new lines of research.
The association's contribution will be used to promote the work of Alberto Jimenez Schuhmacher (Molecular Oncology Group), Ariel Ramirez (Immunotherapy, Inflammation, Infection and Cancer Group (I3C)), David Fernandez Antoran (Cancer and Radiation Biology Group) and Patricia Sancho (Metabolism and Tumor Stem Cells Group).

In addition to the knowledge acquired, the Association highlighted the dedication, rigor and passion of the research team, as well as the privilege of having a research institute of this nature in Aragon. This experience gave the Association renewed impetus to continue its work of awareness, support, and fundraising, with the firm conviction that Research is the way to continue advancing in the fight against cancer.
The Sentinel Association
The Tarazona Sentinel Association is a non-profit association that helps people suffering from breast cancer or female genital cancer who live in Tarazona or the Tarazona and Moncayo region. The association's goals are to raise awareness, provide information, and prevent these diseases, as well as provide financial and psychological support to those in our area who may suffer from them. The association currently has 700 members, making it one of the largest associations in the region. In 2019, the Sentinel Association was recognized with the CITY OF TARAZONA award by the Tarazona City Council, unanimously voted by all political groups, demonstrating the strong social support it enjoys.
Among the most notable activities of the Association is the Sentinel Running, which is celebrated every year in the month of October, coinciding with the International Breast Cancer Day and which has around 4000 registrations each year. Running Sentinel of the Year 2024 had as a motto “STEP BY STEP TOWARDS RESEARCH"coinciding with the Association's decision to take a further step in its journey, allocating funds to RESEARCH. Thus, the €40.000 raised in the Centinela Running 2024 it has beenn destined for the IIS Aragón project “Development of a new next-generation immunotherapy”.
