Researcher Marisa de la Rica participates in two key publications of the Ministry of Health on nursing care
17 April 2026The 2025 charity race, in which more than 4.000 people participated, helped raise a significant portion of this donation. During the event, Alberto J. Schuhmacher presented the project funded in 2024 and the one planned for this year.
Tarazona hosted a particularly significant event for the IIS Aragón last Thursday, marking the collection of a donation from 40.000 Euros made by the Sentinel AssociationA very significant portion of this revenue comes from charity race 2025, an event that brought together more than 4.000 people and which once again demonstrated society's capacity to mobilize in support of research.
The day also included an informative conference in the auditorium of the Tarazona Senior Center, which was attended by more than 120 peopleThe president of the association, Pilar Taus, was in charge of opening the meeting with a few words of welcome.
During the event, the IIS Aragón was presented as an organization that supports research by integrating the entire value chain, connecting the basic investigation and clinic with the infrastructure, the Development and talent acquisitionThis approach allows projects to be supported from their initial stages to their potential implementation in clinical practice, reinforcing the real impact of research on society.
Likewise, researcher Alberto J. Schuhmacher explained both the project funded by the 2024 donation such as future project for 2025He emphasized the importance of these kinds of contributions in fostering early-stage ideas, helping to solidify them, and enabling projects to apply for larger, more competitive grants with the data generated, thus multiplying their impact. The ultimate goal, he noted, is for these projects to become solutions that move beyond the laboratory and reach the patients who need them, ultimately benefiting society.
“In this auditorium, a few years ago, I met someone who had received CAR-T cell therapy. He was the first person I met who had been treated, and today he's my friend. Since then, it's been an unforgettable place for me,” Schuhmacher explained. “Today it's exciting to see him again and to think that these types of therapies will soon be available at Miguel Servet Hospital, thanks to the generosity of people like you,” he added. “We are making great strides in biomedical research in Aragon. Last year, we wanted to explore the use of cell therapy in aggressive breast cancer. This year, we are going to develop new platforms and models to test innovative drugs and these types of therapies in more humanized systems that better mimic patients, allowing us to advance more quickly in the preclinical phase.”
The meeting also served to highlight the need for talking about science y to remember that the science is a shared taskwhere every contribution counts. In this regard, the importance of transparency in the use of the funds received by the Institute was emphasized, and it was stressed that every contribution, however small, helps to continue advancing research.
