DES vs DEB in calcified lesions: the IIS Aragón organizes a training day on strategies for preparing and treating calcified coronary lesions
4 June, 2026The award-winning work explores the potential of microbiota-derived peptides as novel regenerative therapies and is part of a research line currently undergoing an international PCT/EP patent application process
Javier Martinez, researcher of the group of Translational Research in Digestive Pathology at the Aragón Health Research Institute (IIS Aragón), has received the shared award for best oral poster, in the mode Rapid Fire Talk, in the 5th International Symposium on Regenerative Hepatology, recently held in the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park. The meeting, organized by the EASL Regenerative Hepatology ConsortiumIt brought together internationally renowned researchers and professionals in the field of regenerative hepatology.
The award has been given to the work entitled “Microbiota-derived peptides as novel regenerative therapies: Bridging the gap from in-silico discovery to germ-free models and ex vivo human tissue”, an investigation focused on the study of peptides derived from the microbiota as possible new therapeutic tools to promote liver regeneration processes.
The award-winning communication was presented during the session of rapid-fire oral presentations, included in the symposium's scientific program, which addressed topics such as liver regeneration mechanisms, organoid development, and systems liver-on-chiphepatic perfusion ex vivo and advanced human models applied to biomedical research.
This award represents further international support for this line of work, which was already selected last year by the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) among the best oral presentations by young researchers. Furthermore, the results generated in this project are currently in the patent application process. International PCT/EPThis reinforces its translational potential and its possible future transfer to the clinical field.
The symposium featured the participation of researchers from various European centers and the presence of Peter the Baptist, a researcher at the IIS Aragón in the Translational Research Group in Digestive Pathology, and one of the organizers of the meeting. The day included scientific sessions, presentations of selected communications, and exchange spaces aimed at promoting international collaboration in regenerative hepatology.
