October 8, 2024Experts in human, animal and environmental health met on Thursday 3 October at the CIBA to promote scientific collaborations under the comprehensive approach of “One Health”. The event was organised by the European Projects Office of the IIS Aragón.
On 3th of October, el Aragon Health Research Institute (IIS Aragon) organized a the working networking dedicated to promoting the Cooperation between researchers in the field of “One Health” (One Health). The event, held within the framework of the HorIISA project (Horizon IIS Aragón 2025), brought together experts from various Aragonese research institutions, with the aim of generate synergies and promote the internationalization of its lines of work.
A day to connect disciplines
The conference, organized by the the IIS Aragón, Together with Aragon Agri-Food Institute (IA2), the Aragon Agri-Food Research and Technology Centre (QUOTE) and the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences (IACS). One Health took place at the context of the HorIISA project, funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation (MCIN) through the State Research Agency (AEI).
The main objective was toStrengthen collaborations between researchers from different disciplines within the One Health approach, which addresses the interrelationship between human, animal and environmental health. With active participation of 21 research groups, the day offered a space for the presentation of its lines of work, followed by discussion panels on key topics such as zoonoses, the biotechnology, environment, thefood security and nutrition, and antimicrobial resistance.
The “One Health” approach: health as a whole
The One Health Philosophy recognizes the interdependence between human health, animal health and environmental conservation, especially relevant in the current context of global health challenges. The objective of the day was not only to give visibility to the research groups operating in this field, but also identify collaborative financing opportunities in Europe and explore new avenues to boost joint innovation.
The day began with a presentation of the future European One Health Partnership by IACS, which served as a framework for subsequent thematic discussions.
