Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI, Responsible Research & Innovation) is an approach that anticipates and evaluates the implications and social expectations regarding research and innovation, with the aim of promoting research and innovation design. inclusive and sustainable.
Thus, RRI implies that social actors (researchers, citizens, policy makers, companies, organizations, etc.) work together throughout the research and innovation process to achieve better alignment of both the process and its results with values, needs and expectations of society.
In practice, RRI is implemented as a package that includes the participation of multiple actors and the public in research and innovation, allowing easier access to scientific results, incorporation of gender and ethics in the content and the research and innovation process and scientific education.
At IIS Aragón there is a commitment to implement responsible research and innovation (RRI) through the development of different actions around the pillars of RRI.
Ethics
It focuses on:
• Research integrity: the prevention of unacceptable research practices and investigations.
• Science and society: the ethical acceptance of scientific and technological developments.
Governance
Agreements to achieve an acceptable and desirable future must:
• Be robust and adaptable for the unpredictable development of research and innovation (de facto management).
• Be familiar enough to align with existing practices in research and innovation.
• Share responsibility among all actors.
• Provide governance instruments to foster this shared responsibility.
Gender equality
Promote gender-balanced teams, guarantee gender equality in decision-making bodies, and always take into account the gender dimension in research and innovation to improve the quality and social relevance of the results.
Open access
Address issues of accessibility to and ownership of scientific information. Open, early access to scientific work can improve the quality of scientific research and facilitate rapid innovation, constructive collaborations among collaborators, and productive dialogue with civil society.
Science education
It focuses on:
• Improving the current educational process to better equip citizens with the skills and knowledge necessary to participate in debates on research and innovation.
• The increase in the number of researchers (promote scientific vocations).
Citizen participation
Promote research and innovation processes that are collaborative and involve several actors: all actors in society work together throughout the process in order to align their results with the values, needs and expectations of society.
