“20 years of research together” is the motto under which the Engineering Research Institute of Aragon (I3A) celebrates its anniversary, but the year 2002 also marks the beginning of a commitment by the University of Zaragoza to promote research activity.
The I3A was the first that was created and, at this time, brings together a great scientific capacity, including a good part of the university groups of the School of Engineering and Architecture (EINA), along with other groups of the Faculty of Sciences, Economics and Business and Veterinary Medicine. Has a long trajectory researcher in the development of kitchens induction, robotics, food safety and packaging, search of energies and more sustainable processes or participation in engineering for the medical and healthcare field, among other fields.
It has 34 research groups, more than 500 professionals and 600 projects on going. It is organized into four strategic divisions: Biomedicine, Processes and Recycling, ICTs and Industrial Technologies. Its most notable lines of work are grouped around “Vanguard Laboratories” in areas such as the circular economy, industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, photonics, smart cities, personalized medicine, home appliance technology and virtual and augmented reality. Have a budget of 15,5 million of euros, mainly with industry, national and European projects. He leads 19 university Chairs and last year he achieved 12 patents.
The I3A celebrates its anniversary with different activities that began today with an institutional event in the Auditorium of the University, chaired by the rector, José Antonio Mayoral, together with the general directors of Research and Innovation and Industry and SMEs of the Government of Aragon, Ramón Guirado and Carlos Javier Navarro, as well as the director of the I3A, Pablo Laguna.
Felipe Petriz, president of the Aragonese Council of the European Movement and rector of the University of Zaragoza when the Institute was created, was in charge of giving the inaugural conference, in which he outlined the evolution of the University Institutes of Research at the University of Zaragoza. In addition, a video has been projected with the “20 years of the I3A seen by its directors”. The event ended with a conference on the challenges of R&D&i, given by Fernando Temprano, currently a director of Talantia. A professional with a track record of more than 30 years of experience in managing R&D&I projects and teams in public and private institutions, in national and international settings. For 10 years, he has led R&D&I and Technology at one of the largest energy multinationals in Europe and is an expert in technologies for the energy sector.
For tomorrow, Tuesday, the I3A has organized a Innovation and Entrepreneurship and R&D+i of Excellence Conference, which will take place in the Assembly Hall of the Ada Byron building (Río Ebro Campus) from 9.30:13.45 a.m. to 20:XNUMX p.m., where you can see the video recorded with the four women who have been deputy directors in these XNUMX years and who They will explain their journey through engineering, research and management.
On Wednesday, the day will be dedicated to social activities, with sports training, scientific trivia and a performance by the Risarchers of the University of Zaragoza.
The events of this 20th anniversary will end on Thursday with the III Conference of the I3A - XI Conference of Young Researchers, in which, in addition to knowing the studies and lines of work of 67 jóvenes Through posters and oral presentations, the “I3A Distinction”, an annual recognition of an entity, company or person that has played an outstanding role for its support or collaboration with the I3A.
