7 April 2026This call is aimed at organizations interested in promoting Innovative models of citizen involvement and participation, Strengthening ethics and transparency in cancer research, And the new technologies. such as AI and the European Health Data Area (EHDS), to actively contribute to the development of more participatory, fair and inclusive practices within the European Union's Cancer MissionIt is an opportunity for institutions and organizations to promote new ideas and participatory initiatives that allow for the real involvement of patients, families, citizens and professionals in decision-making in areas related to cancer.
Why is this call for applications important?
PERIFORMANCE promotes the public participation to reinforce the Impact, ethics and equity of the EU Cancer Mission.
The project aims to ensure that scientific advances, infrastructure, and technological innovations in cancer are in line with the social values, equity and public trust —especially with regard to cancer research outcomes, advanced technologies, data use, and research infrastructures—.
To this end, going beyond traditional models of scientific communication, PERIFORMANCE focuses on collaboration with multiple stakeholders, such as patients or research participants, biobanks, research and healthcare professionals, industry, and policymakers, seeking to involve all key players in the cancer research ecosystem, including those traditionally excluded (vulnerable groups, local innovation think tanks, NGOs, etc.). The overall goal is to ensure that new scientific advances and technological innovations to combat cancer are scalable, sustainable, and adapted to regional needs, reflecting the diversity of Europe.
Through this Open Call, we are looking proposals led by local, regional or national actors who want:
- To promote the meaningful participation of patients, families, citizens and other stakeholders, as well as new and diverse actors, with special attention to the improving the participation of vulnerable and underrepresented groups in cancer-related initiatives (research, care, prevention, treatments, etc.).
- Develop methods, tools or spaces for co-creation applicable to cancer research and care.
- Strengthening institutional capacities in public participation and responsible governance.
- Greater awareness of the social value of biobanks in cancer research;
- Greater social trust, transparency and public understanding of the use of AI and health data, as well as research based on the European Health Data Area (EHDS)
- Strengthening governance, ethics and citizen involvement in the management of health data and data sharing practices;
- Patient empowerment and participation
Each proposal can request a maximum of EUR 10.000.
