August 4, 2026The "La Caixa" Foundation has opened a new edition of the Junior Leader Postdoctoral FellowshipsThis program aims to attract and retain outstanding research talent through three-year postdoctoral contracts at universities and research centers in Spain and Portugal. The grants are open to researchers of any nationality working in STEM disciplines (life sciences, experimental sciences, physics, chemistry, engineering, technology, and mathematics).
The program includes 40 scholarships, distributed in two modalities:
Junior Leader – Incoming
- 20 scholarships for researchers who wish to join accredited centers of excellence in Spain or Portugal, including Health Research Institutes accredited by the ISCIII, such as the IIS Aragón.
- Candidates must not have resided in the destination country for more than 12 months during the three years prior to the call for applications.
Junior Leader – Retaining
- 20 scholarships for researchers already working in Spain or Portugal who wish to continue their career at any university or research center in these countries
- Candidates must have resided in the destination country for more than 12 months during the three years prior to the call for applications.
Each scholarship lasts for three years and a maximum financing of 320.100 €This includes salary costs, funding for the research project, and additional support for mobility and family expenses where applicable. Furthermore, the program incorporates cross-cutting training in leadership and professional development.
