First Conference on Participatory Oncology: participation, information and person-centered care
5 May 2026The session will address how diet, gut bacteria, and liver health can influence cardiovascular health
The Ibercaja Foundation and the Aragon Health Research Institute (IIS Aragon) are organizing a new session of the series “Promoting Cardiovascular Health: Take care of yourself!”, an educational initiative focused on providing citizens with useful and accurate information on various aspects related to heart health. This session will be entitled “Gut microbiota and heart: the key role of the liver in your health"and will address the connection between diet, microbiota, liver and cardiovascular health."
The activity will be held in Ibercaja Patio de la Infanta Foundation and will offer a specialized look at how what we eat can influence our gut microbiota, how this can modify liver function, and how liver health can also affect the heart.
The first intervention, under the title “Diet, microbiota and liver: a vital triangle for the heart”, will be in charge of Dr. Pedro BaptistaARAID senior researcher at the Aragon Health Research Institute and researcher at the Biomedical Research Networking Center for Liver and Digestive Diseases. During his presentation, he will explain how food, gut bacteria, and our cells communicate, and why this relationship may play a significant role in cardiovascular health.
The second talk, “Microbiota and cardiovascular health: Is there a real relationship?”, will be taught by the Dr. Sandra García MateoDr. [Name], a specialist in Gastroenterology at the Lozano Blesa University Clinical Hospital in Zaragoza, and a researcher at the Aragon Health Research Institute and the Biomedical Research Networking Center for Liver and Digestive Diseases. In her presentation, she will address the existing evidence on the relationship between microbiota and cardiovascular health, in a context where this concept is increasingly prevalent, but where it is necessary to distinguish what is supported by research and what is not.
The day will continue with the presentation “If the liver is diseased, the heart will be too.", by the Dr. Samuel Martínez DomínguezDr. [Name], a specialist in Gastroenterology at the Lozano Blesa University Clinical Hospital in Zaragoza, and a researcher at the Aragon Health Research Institute and the Biomedical Research Networking Center for Liver and Digestive Diseases. His presentation will focus on the relationship between liver disease and cardiovascular health, especially in the case of fatty liver, one of the most common liver diseases, whose cardiovascular impact is key to patient outcomes.
The day will be moderated by the Dr. Fernando Gomollón García, University Professor, Director of the Department of Medicine, Psychiatry and Dermatology at the University of Zaragoza, researcher at the Aragon Health Research Institute and the Biomedical Research Network Center for Liver and Digestive Diseases.
