9 June, 2022The Association of Relatives and Friends of Children with Cancer Faro, of La Rioja, was founded in 1999 by a group of parents of children diagnosed with cancer with the aim of contributing to the improvement of the health status and quality of life of both children and adolescents affected by oncological diseases as well as their families, providing them with comprehensive care in the different phases of the disease and the problems derived from it and the treatment.
Faro works closely with Aspanoa, since in La Rioja there is no pediatric oncology referral hospital. As a result of this relationship, the Riojan entity made a donation of 5.000 euros to the 'Immunotherapy, inflammation and cancer' research group, led by Julián Pardo, from the Aragón Health Research Institute.
Faro, which has been part of the Spanish Federation of Parents of Children with Cancer since 2006, has 400 members and serves 45 families. Each year it records between 8 and 10 diagnoses, but offers support to both recent cases and all previous ones. It has five assistance programs: medical, psychological, social, educational and informative.
