Nowadays, cardiovascular diseases are one of the main causes of death and morbidity in developed Western countries, being responsible for approximately 50% of deaths in these nations. There are several risk factors that increase the probability of developing cardiovascular diseases. These factors are divided into non-modifiable ones, such as age, sex and genetic factors, and modifiable ones, which are of greater interest, such as arterial hypertension, smoking, diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemias. The main objective of this course is to address the latest advances in lipid metabolism research and its relevance in the development of cardiovascular diseases.
