El Aragon Health Research Institute in collaboration with University of Zaragoza They organize on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 4:00 pm hours el Biomedical Seminar: «Mathematical and experimental models of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in the optimization of the use of antimicrobials».

In recent years, the problem of the emergence and worldwide spread of bacteria highly resistant to antimicrobials has become a global health problem. The scarcity of new molecules with activity and the rapid emergence of resistant variants has led to the design and development of strategies for dosing optimization.

In this sense, tools have been extended such as the use of experimental models of dynamic infection such as hollow-fiber infection model, along with the development of mathematical models capable of understanding the relationship between bacterial behavior and its relationship with antimicrobial activity. These models, together, allow not only the optimization of dosages to maximize the effectiveness of antimicrobials in monotherapy or in combination, but also the establishment of sensitivity cut-off points under pharmacokinetic criteria.
