Seminar Summary:
The hormonal and immuno-metabolic mediators of the stress response have both protective and deleterious effects on the body. In the short term, they are essential for adaptation, maintenance of homeostasis and survival; But chronic exposure or abnormalities in the modulation of the stress response can lead to the appearance of a wide range of physical and mental problems. The usefulness and relevance in clinical practice of the study of allostatic load will be discussed and how the integration of several biomarkers that translate the biological and psychological impact of stress on the development of depression and its clinical trajectories could contribute to understanding how to prevent and improve The therapeutic approach to depressive disorders.
