The Cajal Lecture, which began its journey in 2019, is an annual meeting that takes place at the University of Zaragoza, the alma mater of whom it takes its name, in which leading figures come together.

Mariano Barbacid, doctor in Chemical Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid and director of the National Center for Oncological Research, will give this year the conference 'Oncology of the 18st century: from personalized therapies to immunotherapy', next Monday, January 18 , at XNUMX p.m.

On this occasion, due to the situation derived from Covid-19, the Cajal 2021 Lesson will be held online through the channels of YouTube y Facebook of Cultural Activities of the University of Zaragoza.

Mariano Barbacid is a biochemist specialized in molecular oncology research and one of the most prestigious biochemists in the world in cancer research. Doctor in Chemical Sciences from the Complutense University, in 1974 he settled at the National Cancer Institute of the United States where he carried out various research that led him to isolate the first oncogenic gene from a human tumor and establish its activation mechanism (1982). These discoveries served to establish the molecular bases of cancer and open a new field of research that today we know as Molecular Oncology. In 1998 he returned to Spain to create and direct the National Cancer Research Center in Madrid. Currently, his research focuses on the identification of therapeutic targets in lung and pancreas tumors induced by KRAS oncogenes.
