Quality scientific information and dissemination: looking for the needle in the haystack

June 9, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The current crisis has posed a real challenge for scientific information and dissemination to society.

Interest in news about the exceptional situation we are experiencing and, in general, about science, has skyrocketed during the pandemic. But the excess of news, the so-called “infodemic”, has also been accompanied by an increase in fake news, hoaxes and exaggerations. In this context, the work of journalists and scientific disseminators is essential to provide quality, rigorous and clear information to society. Has the pandemic contributed to citizens becoming more interested in science? How do we know which sources are reliable? What are science journalists and scientific communicators learning from this crisis?

In the online meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 9, at 17 p.m., we will try to debate to respond to these and other questions related to dissemination and scientific information in times of crisis.

The series of online meetings Crossed Arguments arises to reflect on the impact of the current crisis on SCIENCE, MEDICINE and HUMANISM, the three pillars on which the activity of the Lilly Foundation rests.

Led by experts and professionals willing to establish markedly constructive dialogues, these meetings are a space to analyze, among other aspects, whether these changes respond to latent needs, whether they are here to stay or what their evolution could be like.
