PRESENTATION:

Throughout history, visual support has been the most used system for education and the transmission of information. Science has always had a privileged place in the use of visual support as a teaching tool; in the case of medicine, this role has always been of vital importance, from anatomical atlases to surgical guides, through histology or cytology manuals, The artistic side of the doctor and the good researcher have always been highly valued in academic environments.

In the 21st century in a digital world, the use of graphic support for dissemination has taken on a new role, visual abstracts, graphical abstracts and infographics are the medium chosen by large academic entities (magazines, organizations, institutes) such as main support to virally disseminate 21st century science.

A Visual Abstract synthesizes the contents of an article in an illustrated and concise way, and its function is to capture the attention of readers in a very visual and conceptual way, in order to favor the reading and citation of the articles. Some scientific journals already incorporate this technique among their publication standards. In addition, it can be very convenient to disseminate and promote the research carried out. Almost all major academic research journals have adopted media platforms, such as Twitter, to disseminate their publications and make them more accessible to readers. A recent study suggested that articles featured on Twitter can be three times more likely to be read than those that were not. Social media, and specifically Twitter, is an effective platform for disseminating research. The use of visual summaries was associated with higher levels of diffusion as measured by impressions and views of articles on the publishers' website.

NOTE: Due to the COVID19 health crisis, the course, given the impossibility of ensuring the health status that may be present on the proposed dates, is proposed in an online format that, combining asynchronous video classes with a synchronous webinar, ensures the participation of all students and students regardless of their geographical location, maintaining the interactivity necessary to achieve the objectives.
