El Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences in collaboration with Aragon Health Research Institute They organize September 11 to October 15, 2023 el Course «Introduction to Machine Learning in health sciences (R): Supervised models (2023 Edition)».
The main difference between machine learning and traditional statistical analysis is its purpose. Machine learning models are designed to make the most accurate predictions possible, while statistical models are designed to infer about relationships between variables.
Knowing the methodology used in machine learning, as well as having software that allows this methodology to be used with biomedical data, can be very useful to health professionals to create predictive models that help make daily decisions. In the same way, the acquisition of this new knowledge can help to understand what methods and techniques to use in each investigation, depending on the nature.
Having programs that quickly calculate these predictive models and that are easy to use by professionals who are not experts in statistics or computer science, will help the models created by biomedical research groups to be used by the scientific community.
In this course, the main supervised methods will be studied, which are a set of techniques used in the field of machine learning that are based on the use of labeled data to train models and make predictions or classifications on new data. These methods are widely applied in various areas of health sciences, with the aim of improving diagnosis, prognosis and clinical decision making.
