Course – Multivariate analysis in biomedical studies: Linear regression models (jamovi)

This course is designed to provide a rigorous and practical introduction to linear regression, one of the most widely used statistical models in biomedical data analysis. Linear regression is a central tool because it allows us to describe, explain, and predict the relationship between a continuous response variable and one or more explanatory factors. This capability is especially relevant in biomedical studies because it allows us to estimate the effect of exposures or interventions, adjust for confounding variables, explore both linear and nonlinear relationships, and develop interpretable predictive models.

Furthermore, one of the most relevant (and often least understood) aspects of regression is the study of interactions between variables. Analyzing interactions is key to identifying whether the effect of one factor depends on the level of another, allowing for the detection of phenomena such as effect modification or heterogeneity in response. This type of analysis is fundamental in personalized medicine, epidemiology, and clinical trials, where not all individuals respond in the same way to an intervention. 

The course will be conducted using Jamovi, a tool that facilitates a practical, accessible, and reproducible approach to statistical analysis. The objective is not only to learn how to perform procedures, but also to understand their logic, correctly interpret the results, and communicate them with scientific rigor. Special emphasis will be placed on the clinical interpretation of models, the identification of potential biases, the verification of assumptions, and the appropriate presentation of results, following international standards such as the STROBE guidelines. 

(*) The course is aimed at healthcare personnel working in any of the specialized or primary healthcare centers of the SALUD and the Department, as well as members of research groups of the IIS Aragón.
