Conference “The modes of transmission of SARS-COV-2 and how to protect ourselves: what we know now”

October 28, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

The engineer José Luis Jiménez presents today, Wednesday, October 28 at 18.00:XNUMX p.m. at the EINA Ateneo his research on the transmission of Covid-19 by air and the influence of aerosols

  • José Luis Jiménez, industrial engineer from the University of Zaragoza and doctor in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, works in the United States
  • César Dopazo, honorary professor of Fluid Mechanics at Unizar and full academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering, will moderate this session of the Ateneo, organized together with the SAMCA Chair of Technological Development of Aragon and the I3A

The Ateneo of the School of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Zaragoza hosts on Wednesday, October 28, at 18 p.m., an online conference on “The modes of transmission of SARS-COV-2 and how to protect ourselves: what we know now” , taught by researcher José Luis Jiménez, an industrial engineer who studied at the University of Zaragoza and a doctor in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. He works in the United States and has occupied the front pages of news for his research on the transmission of Covid-19 by air and the influence of aerosols on that transmission.

In this talk, he will present the importance of aerosols in disease transmission, a topic he has been working on with world leaders since March of this year.

It will explain the reasons why many scientists believe that COVID-19 transmission is dominated by aerosols, with a minor fraction of transmission by surfaces and with a small fraction of ballistic droplets (only important during coughing and sneezing).

Additionally, he will discuss the World Health Organization's (WHO) extreme resistance to aerosol transmission, which has its origins in a century of denial of the role of aerosols in disease transmission.

Finally, he will discuss some ideas on how to better protect ourselves from COVID-19 in the coming months and from other respiratory diseases in the future.

The ATENEO will be presented by César Dopazo, honorary professor of Fluid Mechanics at the University of Zaragoza and full academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering, who will also moderate the subsequent debate.

The Ateneo of the School of Engineering and Architecture is organized with the support of the SAMCA Chair of Technological Development of Aragon and the Engineering Research Institute of Aragon (I3A).
