3 May 2019When eating away from home is not at odds with a healthy diet
3 May 2019The center, which replaces the old Padre Piquer nursing home, opens a dining room where users from all over the capital of Teruel can attend.
As of this Thursday, the capital of Teruel has a new nursing home with 129 beds and another 30 day center beds, which will mean the creation of 25 jobs when it is at full capacity, something that is expected to happen in the coming months. The center, in the heart of the San León neighborhood – the second most populated in the city – replaces the old Padre Piquer nursing home, located in Ensanche and where 30 people already work and are now moving to the new facilities.
The residence, owned by the Rey Ardid Foundation, has required an investment of almost 8 million euros for its construction and equipment and has had the collaboration of Ibercaja. It opens its doors with 61 users and plans to reach 85% occupancy in the near future.
As explained by the president of the Rey Ardid Foundation, Alfonso Vicente, the center is innovative in caring for the elderly and, especially, in the application of treatments against Alzheimer's. Specifically, it has a therapeutic garden, unique in the Autonomous Community of Aragon, aimed at enhancing different cognitive abilities, such as reminiscence, sensory stimuli, orientation and horticulture.
Vicente highlighted that the Teruel residence brings together all the knowledge that the entity has acquired in its long history of treating the elderly and also avoids the mistakes made until now. The foundation has 16 nursing homes and nine day centers in Aragon.
