Aragonese scientific talent in the United Kingdom returns home for Christmas

A group of young Aragonese women who went abroad to study or work and found themselves in the United Kingdom have decided to join together, not only to remember their roots, but also to "create channels that allow uniting and transmitting ideas that support growth initiatives technological and innovation in Aragon".

"We met through the Spanish community of scientists in the United Kingdom (Society of Spanish Researchers in the United Kingdom, SRUK CERU)," they explain, a consolidated organization with almost a thousand members and very active in organizing activities for promote relationships between the group and with society. From there arose the friendship between the four Aragonese: Sandra Esteras, Patricia Forcén, Alba López and Nerea Irigoyen.

Among its objectives is "to offer an ecosystem that helps other researchers who decide to begin their professional path outside of Spain, facilitating their new experience." They have around twenty interested parties and this Sunday they hope to gather more support at a Christmas vermouth organized in Zaragoza at the Musical Café. They believe that the departure of the British from the EU on January 31 may be an opportunity for Spain to recover talent.

They live in cities like London, Cambridge and Bristol and have started by maintaining contact via social networks, some meetings in the United Kingdom and taking advantage of the Christmas holidays, this Sunday's appointment in Zaragoza. "We created a Twitter account in which for now what we do most is follow science and innovation news in Aragon," explains Sandra Esteras, a 42-year-old biochemist who works in London. She has been outside Spain for 19 years and has passed through Belgium, Germany and the United States. She has lived in the United Kingdom since 2012.
