On November 25, Dr. Raquel Espílez and Dr. Ángel Borque, leading specialists in the Urology Service of the Miguel Servet University Hospital (HUMS) and researchers from the Aragon Health Research Institute, received in Barcelona two of the three national scholarships awarded in the Third Call for Scholarships in Prostate Cancer Care Quality, promoted by BayerThe third scholarship of the call fell into the hands of the Dr. Marta Bonet, radiation oncologist at the Arnau Villanova Hospital in Lérida.
These scholarships, worth 15.000 euros each, Innovative projects designed to improve the quality of care for patients with advanced prostate cancer are recognized. In the dissemination of these scholarships, collaborate Orion Pharma along with Bayer, supporting transformative initiatives, identifying and supporting critical areas that require urgent and effective solutions for patients with advanced prostate cancer.
The projects presented by Drs. Espílez and Borque will be implemented at HUMS to benefit patients treated in Sector II of Zaragoza. These initiatives, aligned with the association TheMoveMen, seek to offer a comprehensive and humanized approach to the care of male cancer.
La Dr. Raquel Espílez leads the project «VIGORES-PRO», a personalized and supervised physical training program that mitigates the side effects of systemic treatments and promotes sustainable physical exercise habits. This project, developed thanks to NaturFit, a reference company in personal training as a driver of health, and the collaboration of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, introduces a disruptive approach by integrating physical activity as a fundamental part of oncological therapy.
In turn, the Dr. Angel Borque, head of section of the Prostate Unit, leads the project «PRONE», which combines nutritional interventions based on the Mediterranean diet with advanced digital technology to improve the cardiovascular and bone health of patients, promoting their adherence to oncological treatments. This innovative project is developed thanks to the collaboration of IBIONS, Biomedical Institute of Nutrition and Health, which provides its experience in personalized nutritional guidance supported by artificial intelligence, which positions the project as a benchmark in the integration of technology and nutrition in oncological care.
These initiatives represent a innovative and disruptive advancement, by addressing care needs not covered by the health system and marking a milestone in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. Thanks to these grants, it will be possible to implement strategies that significantly improve the quality of life of patients, positioning the Urology Service of HUMS, Directed by Dr. Mª Jesus Gil Sanz, as a national benchmark in healthcare innovation, humanization and quality in uro-oncology.
