Last Friday, September 27, the researcher Alberto Jimenez Schuhmacher presented in Monzón the project "High-precision missiles against the most malignant tumors", which will be financed with the funds raised in the VIII edition of the Carrera de la Mujer. At the event, which was held at the Hotel MasMonzón, Jiménez Schuhmacher gave an informative talk about the scientific foundations of his research, explaining how the race funds will be allocated to this innovative project.
He accompanied him Rafa Continente, from the Innovation and CSR Unit of the Aragon Health Research Institute (IIS Aragón), which highlighted the importance of the participation of patients, companies and citizens in the Institute's projects. Both stressed how initiatives such as the Carrera de la Mujer not only raise funds for research, but also strengthen the relationship between scientists and society.

«High-precision missiles against the most malignant tumors»
The group project Molecular Oncology (GIIS111) is an ambitious research project that seeks to develop new solutions to diagnose and treat some of the most aggressive and complex types of cancer. Alberto Jiménez Schuhmacher's team aims to create "missiles" that locate and attack tumor cells without damaging healthy tissue.
The IIS Aragón research group is multidisciplinary and combines a wide range of molecular biology techniques, experimental models, screenings and cell biology assays in its research with the aim of developing new diagnostic tools and new treatments.
The Monzón Women's Race: A sporting and charitable event
La VIII edition of the Monzón Women's Race, to be held on Sunday 27th of October, Its main purpose is Raise funds for IIS Aragón research projects and support a local association. This year, the selected project was that of Alberto Jiménez Schuhmacher, who competed with other initiatives of the institute in a public voting process.
The Councillor for Sports of Monzón, Eliseo Martín, together with the representatives of the organisation of the race, Ana Falo and Beatriz Sanchis, expressed their wish that the test exceeds the 1.000 registered, following last year's success with 950 participants. The event not only promotes the practice of sport among women, but it also has a fundamental solidarity component, allocating the fundraising for scientific research and local causes.
This year, the race will maintain its route of four kilometers, starting at Plaza Manolo Campo, and will have various modalities and a festive atmosphere, with performances by groups such as Sambalá and Sonus Venti. registrations are open from September 29, with a price of 12 euros which includes the famous pink t-shirt, a symbol of struggle and solidarity in the Women's Race.
