'The Protagonist Patient' presents its 2024 results

On December 12, the IIS Aragón and the Miguel Servet University Hospital presented the closing day of the 'The Protagonist Patient' project. Attendees were able to see the results for 2024 and the schedule for 2025

The project 'The Patient Protagonist' continues to advance in its mission to improve the patient experience and humanize healthcare. Since its inception in 2021, work has been done in four key areas: communication, training, satisfaction and spaces/materials. And in 2024, he had 204 shares total.

The fourth edition of the project has had the participation of 76 patient associations, 23 sponsors and 2 collaborators. In addition, the support of 10 hospital services in 2024Thanks to this effort, important improvements have been achieved, such as the creation of the blog Informed Patient, the humanization of hospital spaces, new training for professionals and patients, and programs that improve the patient experience within the hospital.

Results Communication / information

The communication area worked 37 proposals based on the need to create guides for patients, seeking to improve the visibility of associations and knowing the lack of clear channels for consultations.

One of the actions was 'We are weird, but we exist', an open-air exhibition on rare diseases on Zaragoza’s Gran Via.

Another of the actions has been 'Informed Patient': brochures, videos and guides for patients. Thanks to the initiative, more than 1000 patients have been 100 brochures and more than 20 guides, and the has been created blog online 'Informed Patient'. To this day, they continue to be updated and added. pathologies to exhibitors, with more than 180 patient associations.

Training Results

'The Patient Protagonist' performed 30 training actions to raise awareness of soft skills, train in specific pathologies and strengthen doctor-patient communication.

The 'Patient and resident: Shared breakfasts for more humane care' It was one of the training spaces for the Residents.

The professionals They also had a space to train. Some examples were the formation of ELEVEN on supporting people with visual disabilities (2 editions, 1 specific for ophthalmology and another for the rest of the staff), a training to communicate bad news (with support from Occupational Risk Prevention) and others on disorders.

Thanks to the project 'The Patient Protagonist', Patients can attend training on pathologies. Training for patients on nutrition after their first diagnosis of diabetes, in collaboration with the Diabetes Association, organized for this year 2025.

Results Satisfaction

For the satisfaction area, the 'The Patient Protagonist' project made a total of 99 shares looking for: older Emotional Support for patients, accompaniment psychological, reduce waiting times, optimization of care protocols, greater coordination between teams and Reduction of bureaucracy in procedures.

With these initiatives we also achievement: a service of Nursing case management for urology, the implementation of protocols for transitioning pediatric patients to adult services in pediatric diabetes, ensuring continuity in care; and the inclusion of the patient's vision in the improvement of breast and urology process.
