October 28, 2022Luis Moreno, principal investigator of the GENUD group of the Aragón Health Research Institute (IIS Aragón) and professor at the University of Zaragoza, will receive the 10th Hipócrates 2022 Nutrition Research Award in Oviedo on November XNUMX, awarded by the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of the Principality of Asturias.
His line of research at GENUD (Growth, Exercise, Nutrition and Development, for its acronym in English) focuses on the study of different aspects related to childhood obesity, such as its epidemiology, epidemiological genetics, behaviors related to energy balance, body composition, prevention and treatment, as well as physical activity and health or social inequalities associated with lifestyles. He has participated, as principal investigator, in carrying out around thirty research projects funded, among others, by the Carlos III Health Institute and the European Commission. He is the author of more than 800 articles in scientific journals and more than 100 book chapters, being the professor at the University of Zaragoza with the greatest number of scientific publications in its history.
Moreno, also a researcher at the Agri-Food Institute of Aragon (IA2) and the CIBEROBN (Network Biomedical Research Center for the Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition), is no stranger to this type of award: his extensive research career has earned him the award. , among others, the 1992 Ordesa Research Award on Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, the 1993 Spanish Atherosclerosis Foundation Award, the I ABBOT Award on Clinical Research in Obesity, from the Spanish Society for the Study of Obesity, in 2003, and, more recently, the Lilly Foundation Award in the clinical field in 2016 or the Special Recognition award of the XI NAOS Strategy Awards 2017. His work has also contributed to him being among the most cited scientists in the world according to the Highly Cited Researchers list.
Moreno, professor of the Department of Physiatry and Nursing of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Zaragoza, is also a visiting professor of Excellence at the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), since 2011 and has been an associate member of the Johns Hopkins Global Center on Childhood Obesity (Baltimore, USA). Likewise, it belongs to numerous scientific societies, such as the Spanish Association of Pediatrics, the Spanish Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, the European Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN), the Spanish Society for the Study of Obesity (SEEDO) , of which he was a member of its Board of Directors and the Spanish Nutrition Society (SEÑ), of which he has been a member of its Board of Directors and president.
During the event in Oviedo, Moreno will give the conference 'Personalized nutrition for the fight against childhood obesity', the content of which will later be published in the Annals of the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of the Principality of Asturias.
