November 26, 2023Eva López, coordinator of the Clinical Research Unit of the IIS Aragón, participated in one of the discussion tables of the day to share what the opportunities are in Clinical Research in Primary Care on behalf of our Autonomous Community
Pharmaindustry organized on Thursday, November 23, the I Conference on Clinical Research in Primary Care in the College of Physicians of Malaga. The purpose of this conference was to analyze and share the opportunity that the promotion of clinical research that is carried out both in Primary Care and that carried out in coordination with hospital care specialists represents for patients, to the extent that it enables early access to innovative medicines in the development phase, which results in improvements in the quality of care provided to patients. Furthermore, it represents a recognition of the scientific and professional value of the doctors who work at this level of care.
Precisely, one of the discussion tables of the day included the participation of Eva López, coordinator of the Clinical Research Unit of the IIS Aragón representing our Autonomous Community. Under the title 'What are the opportunities in Clinical Research in Primary Care? Eva López shared a discussion with Jaime Menéndez-Cuervo from Sanofi Spain; Carina Escobar the Patient Organizations Platform (POP); Pilar Rodríguez Ledo of the Spanish Society of General and Family Physicians; Itziar Vergara from IIS Biogipuzkoa and Silvia Corretge from Boehringer Ingelheim Spain.
In this sense, during the day the Guide to good practice recommendations for promoting clinical research in Primary Care, promoted by Farmaindustria. This working document has been possible thanks to the selfless collaboration of 50 over professionals who, representing all the autonomous communities, AP scientific societies, patient entities and organizations and the pharmaceutical industry, have contributed to this guide coming to light.
Their contributions have allowed us to identify strengths, weaknesses, barriers and opportunities for clinical research with medicines in PC, which, in turn, have resulted in eight recommendations, based on successful experiences, whose implementation in the health system will allow the implementation of clinical trials in health centers.
This impulse is especially relevant at the current time, in which the SNS faces challenges such as the recruitment, motivation and retention of professionals in PA. In particular, the increase in cooperative essays between levels of care is an opportunity to continue promoting Spain's role as a preferred location for carrying out clinical research with drugs at an international level.
All these issues and the value of the new Guide presented in Malaga have been analyzed in depth in the I National Conference on Clinical Research in Primary Care, which has had the participation of almost thirty specialists in the field and the assistance of nearly two hundred experts, including representatives of administrations, professionals, patients and the pharmaceutical industry.
