On the occasion of Premature Baby Day, which is commemorated on November 17, The Aragon Health Research Institute (IIS Aragon) has today presented the video "Premature babies from the hand of science", prepared by the IIS Aragón research groups that make up the RICORS / SAMID Network / CIBEROBN (GIIS 028, GIIS 037, GIIS 062, GIIS 066, GIIS087, GIIS 106). This video, which has been funded by the IIS Aragón intramural call for 2023 through the "Communication Grants", Its objective is to make visible the scientific advances in the care and treatment of these babies.
The event, which was held in the CIBA auditorium, was attended by: Scientific Director of the IIS Aragon, Angel Lanas, neonatologist Gerardo Rodriguez, obstetrician Daniel Orós and the President of the Association of Premature Babies of Aragon (Araprem), Maria Jose Aguilar. All of them have contributed their experience, vision and knowledge on this topic that is so relevant to public health and society.
«The video aims to convey Three essential aspects of prematurity: el emotional impact and life experience What does the arrival of a premature baby mean for families? how science has advanced spectacularly in this field y families' trust in the work of experts and in scientific advances which, every day, allow us to achieve better results for premature babies,” notes Gerardo Rodríguez, neonatologist and principal investigator of the project.
Thanks to research, the survival rate of these babies has increased significantly, as has the quality of life of these children, by reducing the morbidities associated with their condition. “It is important to highlight that changes in perinatal medicine are continuous, and all these advances have led us in recent years to improve not only survival, but also disability-free survival, which is the main objective that we must keep in mind,” adds the neonatologist.
