September 27, 2023"Patient in Science" is a project selected in the FECYT call for aid to promote scientific, technological and innovation culture that will run from October 2023 to June 2024.
This Monday, September 25, the IIS Aragón presented «Patient in Science», project of the Institute selected in the FECYT call for aid to promote scientific, technological and innovation culture and which will run from October 2023 to June 2024.
The presentation was given by the Scientific Director of the IIS Aragón, Angel Lanas, Executive Director, Oscar Lopez, the investigator Alberto Jiménez and the innovation technician Rafa Continente.
Ángel Lanas, who inaugurated the event, emphasized the vocation of service of the Institute to citizens and patients, emphasizing that the IIS Aragón is due to them and this is reflected in all the Institute's activity, both in basic and clinical research. He also stressed that the Institute is working in enhancing the participation of patients in the Institute's research and innovation projects, a line of work that is reflected in the 2023-2027 Strategic Plan.
Óscar López framed the initiative financed by FECYT in the Institute's Strategic Plan, highlighting the strategic objective of integrate the different social and patient groups linked to the IIS Aragón as a key asset in the development of its scientific activity, a line of work that has led to projects such as the one presented “Patient in Science” and other initiatives that will be communicated soon.
After them, Alberto Jiménez Schumahcher highlighted that “research is either done with society or it does not make sense.” In addition, Rafa Continente focused on the presentation of the “Patient in Science” project, putting into practice value that is an initiative resulting from joint work of citizens, social groups, healthcare professionals and the research group, both of researchers with backgrounds from many projects and years of research and of researchers who are beginning their scientific career with new proposals and concerns, who will be responsible for the research of the future.
The project seeks to enhance the interaction between citizens, patients and the research community with the objectives of increasing knowledge and understanding of science and technology in the field of health, and facilitate the participation of patients in research and innovation projects.
“Patient in Science” consists of training actions and activities in which patients and citizens in general, together with researchers, will generate solutions and content of various kinds that combine creativity and scientific rigor.
The project, which started on September 25, will end with the completion of a final gala in June 2024 where the results generated during the coming months will be presented. The project is open to all citizens, healthcare professionals, researchers and people linked to any patient association with a presence in Aragon.
