November 23, 2022"In the coming years, the institute must play a fundamental role as a promoter of quality health research," said the Minister of Health, Sira Repollés.
The call recognizes the best residents, predoctoral and postdoctoral researchers and supports associated and emerging groups, in addition to promoting the incorporation of physicians into health centers.
The Aragón Health Research Institute (IIS Aragón) has today delivered the aid corresponding to the Intramural Call for the Promotion of Research IIS Aragón 2022. Endowed with 209.000 euros, it promotes the mobility of the best research residents and predoctoral researchers, supports groups associated, emerging and consolidated research projects, and promotes the incorporation of clinical researchers into health centers.
The rector of the University of Zaragoza, José Antonio Mayoral, participated in the event; the scientific director of the IIS Aragón, Ángel Lanas; and the Minister of Health of the Government of Aragon, Sira Repollés. «In the coming years, the IIS Aragón must play a fundamental role as a promoter of quality health research in our community, increasingly strengthening collaboration between basic researchers, clinicians and engineers and maximizing the translation of research results to the clinical practice," Repollés indicated in his speech.
Best resident researchers
The winners as best resident researchers were Alba Gállego Royo, from the Aragonese Group for Research in Primary Care, whose main researcher is Rosa Magallón; Alexander Tristancho Baró, from the Infections that are difficult to diagnose and treat group, whose main researcher is Antonio Rezusta; Álvaro Tello Fernández, from the Miguel Servet Ophthalmology Research and Innovation Group, whose main researcher is Luis Emilio Pablo; Ana Roteta Unceta, from the Basic Research Group in Internal Medicine, led by Miguel Ángel Torralba; Elena Tambo Lizalde, from the Security and Care Group, whose main researcher is Delia González; and Julia López de la Cruz and María Concepción Aso Gonzalvo, from the Translational Research Group in Digestive Pathology, whose main researcher is Ángel Lanas Arbeloa.
This award supports residents integrated into the IIS Aragón groups with funding for a stay of between one and three months in a center of international prestige, facilitating their research work.
Likewise, the 'Rector Manuel López' awards have been given in their different categories. The Associate Group Support award went to the iHealthy group, whose principal investigator is Pablo Herrero, while the Emerging Group Support award went to the Molecular Oncology group, whose principal investigator is Alberto Jiménez. The aid to Grupo Consolidado has been allocated to the Advanced Therapies Research Group, whose main researcher is María del Pilar Martín Duque.
These groups obtain financial support for the incorporation of research support personnel or the intensification of a person on the team.
Predoctoral
Grants to predoctoral researchers have been awarded to Laura Martínez García (Personality, Emotion and Health Research group) and Pilar Espiau Romera (Metabolism and Tumor Stem Cells Group).
Regarding the Intramural-PostFSE Action, it promotes the incorporation of physicians who have recently completed their specialized training in hospital or primary care centers, having to allocate at least 50% of their working hours to training in research. The support consists of a contribution of 30.000 euros per year for two years for the hiring of health personnel. In this category, Nora Molina Torres has received the IIS Aragón Translational Research Grant, while David Vaquero Puyuelo has been awarded the Translational Research Grant in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This scholarship is co-financed by Atades, whose manager, Félix Arrizabalaga, has presented the award.
Finally, the category of Support for Scientific Communication has been distributed between the Molecular Oncology groups, the Epichron Research Group in Chronic Diseases and the Health Services Research Group. This call has the purpose of promoting the interest of researchers in disseminating their projects, motivating them and encouraging their communication skills, as well as generating new concerns and scientific vocations and contributing to the transfer of knowledge to society in a significant and innovative way.
The day included two guests: Patricia Sancho, Miguel Servet researcher from IIS Aragón, who spoke about 'Preclinical models derived from patients in translational research in Oncology', and José Ramón Seoane, general director of the Fundación Universidad Autónoma de Madrid , who gave the talk 'From Newton to Einstein: disruptive creation'.
