VIII Call for Gilead Scholarships for Biomedical Research 2021
28 July 2021
What can happen after summer? "The vaccine must be combined with other measures"?
30 July 2021FAIR4Health is made up of 17 partners from 11 European countries, is funded by the European Commission, began in 2018 with a duration of 36 months, and is in its final phase scheduled for November of this year.
Currently, the computer tools previously developed within the framework of the project are being validated in two specific clinical cases following the FAIR principles, which ensure that health research data are findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable from a responsible perspective.
The final purpose of this clinical validation stage is to demonstrate the feasibility of applying the developed tools to health data from different European sources, preserving in all cases their privacy (Privacy Preserving Distributed Mining). The potential impact on European health is very relevant as it will allow large-scale population studies at a European and international level.
The use cases in which this clinical demonstration is being developed are:
- Identification of patterns of multimorbidity/polypharmacy and risk of mortality in chronic patients.
- Development of predictive models for early hospital readmission in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
In both cases, the EpiChron Group has actively participated, both in the design of the clinical cases, and currently in the analysis phase, which will be carried out with data from the Aragon health system, along with that of other European countries.
This project is also allowing the establishment of a solid collaboration network between the different partners of the consortium. FAIR4Health, led by the Andalusian Health Service, is made up of the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences (Spain), Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain), Atos Spain SAE (Spain), University for Health Sciences, Medical Informatics and Technology (Austria), HL7 Foundation (Belgium), Institut für Medizinische Informatik, Statistik und Epidemiologie – Universität Leipzig KöR (Germany), Academic Medical Center of University of Amsterdam (Netherlands), Université de Genève (Switzerland), Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics, University of Braunschweig (Germany), Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Italy), European Federation of Medical Informatics (Switzerland), Digital Curation Center from University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom), Garrigues (Spain), Software Research and Development Consultancy (Turkey), University of Porto (Portugal), and the Institute of Pulmonary Diseases of Vojvodine ( Serbia).
