The University of Zaragoza will participate in an international consortium against tuberculosis
30 January 2020He has been dedicating himself to the treatment of this disease in women for 32 years. This gives continuity to the president's medical profile.
José Manuel Ramón y Cajal, a gynecologist from Huesca who has been dedicated to cancer in women for 32 years, has just been elected new president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) of Huesca. After the meeting held by the National Council of the Association, this Tuesday in Madrid, the change of presidency of the Provincial Board has been voted, which will be effective as of Wednesday, January 29. He succeeds Aurora Calvo Pardo, who has held the presidency for more than 13 years, and who was also the president of Aragón.
José Manuel Ramón continues the medical profile as head of the association which, in the province of Huesca, has exceeded 5.000 members, a figure that has doubled in the last decade and is well above the national average in relation to the inhabitants of the territory. In addition, the number of volunteers has been consolidated and increased in recent years, reaching more than 300 people. Another fact highlighted by the association in this last stage is the increase in professionals who support hundreds of cancer patients and their families through psychological support, social and work care, economic support or emotional support.
In the next month, a new Government Board must be formed, proposed by the new president. And as José Manuel Ramón indicates, “supporting the large group of professionals made up of psychologists, a social worker and management personnel who serve the entire territory”
Aurora Calvo Pardo has been president since 2006, a time in which society has become more aware of this disease than ever. During this time, for the first time, direct research scholarships were created, financed directly with the funds that the association has received through inheritances, donations "and above all through euro to euro from all the people who participate in the races or the actions carried out by all local boards", according to the AECC.
It stands out that territorial structuring has been another of the great steps that have been carried out during Calvo's presidency, establishing headquarters in all the county seats of the province that allow us to reach all corners of the population: Huesca, Monzón , Fraga, Barbastro, Jaca, Sabiñánigo, Binéfar, Sariñena, Graus and Aínsa. In all of them there is a psychologist.
