The Zaragoza College of Physicians has opened a medical volunteer registry to have it available in case it is necessary to reinforce Aragonese healthcare in the face of the evolution of the coronavirus.
This pool of doctors is divided into three groups: retirees under 70 years of age (they will not work in contact with patients because they are risk professionals), active members (who will perform classification tasks, follow-up of patients by telephone , advice, information) and Primary Care willing to double shifts in hospitals, intermediate centers or at their own level of care where most of the cases should be attended to.
The Zaragoza College of Physicians, which has already sent this initiative to all its members, will make a list of volunteers to have it at the disposal of the Department of Health of the Government of Aragon when it requires it, as reported by the college entity.
Furthermore, the college has made itself available to the Government of Aragon and is in permanent contact with other medical colleges in Spain to analyze the situation and anticipate and advance the measures that may be necessary.
In this sense, the president of the COMZ, Concha Ferrer, explains that the model of the College of Physicians of Madrid has been taken, where the situation is more complicated, which is the one that has carried out this prior classification of the volunteers in order to favor the action. in the different support scenarios.
"What has motivated us to go ahead and create this pool with these groups, and seeing how the needs are evolving in other Autonomous Communities, is the foreseeable support that may arise in home care, Primary Care or in the telephone response to a number of doubts and questions that are occurring in the population," says Ferrer.
The president of the COMZ indicates, in this sense, that in Madrid, given the problems arising from the lack of health workers in home care or Primary Care, accelerated training is being carried out for group two of medical volunteers with the support of the Ministry of Health and the Primary Care Directorate.
"Patients will not overwhelm hospital emergencies if they are cared for at home and receive answers to their fears," Ferrer pointed out.
Likewise, the Zaragoza Medical Association has reached an agreement with the insurer SHAM to create free civil liability insurance to cover all volunteers.
