The Lozano Blesa University Clinical Hospital in Zaragoza has already launched its new laundry and linen store, which will more than double the number of clothes processed. The winning companies have invested almost three million euros in the renovation of spaces and equipment, which will also lead to a notable improvement in working conditions and a reduction in energy consumption.
The start of the renovation, adaptation and installation of the machinery began at the end of July of this year and throughout this time the clothes of the Hospital Clínico Universitario have been washed in the laundry of the Hospital Universitario Miguel Servet by staff of the Hospital Clínico Universitario itself. .
From now on, the Clínico laundry will be able to obtain a washing production of 1.564.000 and 3.000.000 kilos per year, depending on the work shifts that are scheduled (about 6.300 kilos per work shift), compared to the previous 1.300.000 kilos. Likewise, it will allow automatic dispensing of 292.000 items of clothing per year, thus providing sufficient service to the centers in the Zaragoza III sector, where 5.200 people work and 980 hospital beds are located, in addition to consultations, emergency areas, a day hospital and outpatient treatments, and can also absorb the washing needs of other centers such as the Calatayud hospital, among others, and thus relieve the work pressure of the Miguel Servet Hospital laundry.
The launch of this facility has been possible thanks to a Public Procurement of Innovation (CPI) procedure divided into two lots, one for washing clothes and the other for storage and distribution using automatic uniformity clothing systems, which were awarded at the time to the companies Girbau and La Fábrica del Software, respectively.
Said contract, with a tender amount of 6,1 million euros and a duration of 12 years, without counting extensions, has included the adaptation and renovation of the spaces, the supply and assembly of all the facilities, equipment and systems necessary to carry out the service of washing, drying and ironing clothes, as well as their storage and automatic dispensing in the general linen area and surgical areas.
