The Cariñena City Council, within the program of celebrating its patron saint festivities in honor of Santo Cristo, will celebrate this Saturday, September 16, a giant and solidarity potato omelette tasting, whose funds will go entirely to the Molecular Oncology Laboratory of the Aragón Health Research Institute, led by researcher Alberto Jiménez Schuhmacher.
For the second consecutive year, the town council has launched this initiative that aims to consolidate itself over time to support different entities and associations that fight against cancer. «Last year we managed to raise more than €1.000 for the Spanish Association Against Cancer and this year we intend for the amount to be similar or, if possible, higher. It is an action that the town welcomes very well,” notes Sergio Ortiz, mayor of Cariñena.
To launch this action, the City Council makes two giant tortillas on site in the town's Plaza del Torico. Once finished, they are made into sandwiches and neighbors who wish to contribute to the cause donate the amount they deem appropriate to a piggy bank (the minimum amount is €2). That same day the money collected is counted and the City Council will issue a symbolic check that will be delivered in person to Alberto Jimenez Schuhmacher, researcher at IIS Aragón.
